FAQs

What is the procedure for applying for financial aid?

The Free Application for Federal Student Help (FAFSA) is the initial step in applying for financial aid. You can register a Renewal FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov if you previously filed a FAFSA for the prior academic year. We strongly advise you to submit your FAFSA or FAFSA Renewal as soon as possible after October 1st of each year. You transfer federal income tax data from the IRS into your FAFSA; use IRS Data Retrieval. Please list Drew University on your FAFSA application and add our School Code 002603 so that we can receive your application from the federal processor.

When is the deadline for financial aid applications?

FAFSA applications for the following year will be available in October. We urge you to complete the FAFSA and send it to the federal processor by February 15 to receive the most consideration for financial aid. The deadline for continuing students is April 15.

When will award letters be mailed?

In March, we start sending award letters to incoming first-year students. In June, Treehouse will have returned student award letters available to see. Your financial aid dossier must be complete to receive notification of your need-based financial aid awards.

Where do I find out more about verification, and why was my file selected for it?

The federal processor selects a large number of student FAFSAs for verification. This procedure is a statutory obligation for verifying the correctness of information provided on your FAFSA application by you and your parents. If your financial aid file is selected for verification, you will be notified via email and ordinary mail. IRS tax return transcripts, a completed institutional verification form, and additional documentation may be requested. The verification process must be completed before any federal, or other need-based aid may be disbursed to your Drew University student account.

How long will it take for the verification to be completed?

Depending on the situation, verification could take 10 to 20 working days. However, the verification process may take longer due to the increased number of student files being validated during peak periods. We encourage you to submit your FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA application as soon as possible and take advantage of our free services to ensure that you fill out your papers correctly the first time.
